24ThingsFrom2024

A quick note from the author...

Yes, "author" is super extra, but I've always wanted to say that.

Now that I've had my moment, I want to quickly introduce this post! I had the idea back in September for my 22nd birthday to share "21 Things I Learned At 21". Obviously, never saw the light of day. Sometimes our passion projects get put on the back burner. I often feel really guilty about this and end up with decision paralysis, overwhelmed with the sheer amount of things I want to create, say, and do.

I say all of this to say, extend some grace to yourself and even if something doesn't follow the preffered timeline, don't let the whole idea be shot.

Now, back to business...

24 THINGS I LEARNED IN 2024

  • Words from a Maui local I met this summer - “Even at your lowest, you’re still a miracle. Being alive is such a gift. Even if today sucks. Even if you failed. You are breathing, it is well. Today is a miracle."

  • Life keeps getting better, or maybe we learn how to better identify the things we need to feel better, either way. There is still so much more. There always will be.

  • Sometimes you just need to shut up and dribble. As unserious as this sounds, it helped me this year. Things will suck sometimes and it's okay to acknowledge that, but you still have to ~dribble~

  • You don’t have to hold on to everything. It may linger, but you can channel it into art, into growth, into learning, make it something worthwhile.

  • You really don’t know yourself until you know your maker & what he’s done for you. Start there if you find yourself wondering. https://www.desiringgod.org/articles/what-god-thinks-about-you

  • I've found that dance parties can mend a funk pretty quickly.

  • You just can’t care if someone thinks your idea is stupid. What’s it all worth if you never follow your heart?

  • Experience the world, don’t just look at it, go try your luck!

  • Most people are good. Don’t forget that! The benefit of the doubt is a beautiful thing.

  • Clothes are merely an experiment and style is meant to be explored. With that being said, every outfit looks better with proper jewelry.

  • Movement is medicine. Eat your greens, honor your body. Longevity is a blessing.

  • Spelling "restaurant" may never get easier, learn to take your losses gracefully.

  • You can just buy new jeans if you need to.

  • Never underestimate the power of a deep breath.

  • You won’t miss that $20 in a month from now, go the extra mile for someone.

  • Do the things you don’t feel like doing; cleaning, skincare, making your bed, etc. You deserve to feel good from the inside out and have nice things.

  • A lot can be solved from ocean air and salt water.

  • Your friends will move far away. This is the best part of owning a phone, call them!

  • Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is rest.

  • When in doubt, turn to the oldies.

  • You're never in too deep, you can always bow out.

  • Add meaning to the mundane. Little things - coffee cups, throw some glitter, give a wink.

  • Opportunity dances with those already on the dance floor!

  • Knowing the words of the Lord changes everything. To learn and hear how he experienced this world and memorizing his promises has made this the best year of my life.
